Friends of Adaire work to enrich and support the education at Fishtown's Alexander Adaire K-8 School.
COMCAST CARES DAY, Saturday, April 25th was truly a remarkable day for Adaire. Comcast picked our beloved K-8 school in Fishtown for its huge Comcast Cares Day of service, sending many employees to volunteer, buying supplies and coordinating the complicated event. Friends of Adaire worked with Comcast, Home & School, Principal Jenkins, teachers, staff, students, parents, neighbors, and so many others to accomplish a long list of cleaning, painting, polishing and planting goals. We are so incredibly grateful for the countless ways so many people contributed to making our school look better!

Friends of Adaire helped organize Adaire's first-ever FIRST FRIDAY STUDENT ART SHOW on Friday, April 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Steap and Grind, at the corner of Columbia and Frankford across from Palmer Park! Many supporters of Adaire attended the happy hour/exhibition opening event, and several student artworks were sold to benefit Adaire's activities fund! Special thanks go to Adaire's excellent art teacher, Mrs. Charlene Lutz, who organized the event with the help of Friends of Adaire President Kate Hughes and Events Chair Joey McAteer.
The Adaire SCHOOLYARD IS GOING TO BE TRANSFORMED, and Friends of Adaire is leading the effort! In fall 2014, we hosted three visioning sessions for a new schoolyard we're working to bring to Adaire, hosted an online survey, and performed a lot of community outreach. With the incredible assistance of volunteer architect and Adaire neighbor Ian Smith, we provided our partners with the City and School District with a clear sense of what we want to see come to the concrete schoolyard at Palmer and Thompson! Stay tuned for more announcements!
Friends of Adaire have had a BLAST at our HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISERS! The last Thursday of the month at different bars around Fishtown, these events have raised a lot of money for Adaire and our spirits tremendously! We have had great turnouts for nights out at Murph's on April 30th, our event at Cedar Point on Feb. 26, and our HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISER at Frankford Hall was a rousing success! We raised $1,000 at the Thursday, January 29th, event for Adaire's awesome MUSIC program, enabling us to buy instruments and music supplies requested by Adaire's music teachers!
