Friends of Adaire work to enrich and support the education at Fishtown's Alexander Adaire K-8 School.
HUGE NEWS! Adaire has been selected as one of three schools in Philadelphia to host volunteers from Comcast on COMCAST CARES DAY, Saturday, April 25th! Volunteers from Comcast and our Adaire community will pitch in to spruce up our beloved Alexander Adaire K-8 as part of the nation's largest corporate day of service! But wait, there's more! Everyone who signs up online HERE will bring Comcast money to Adaire, as we'll be rewarded for the number of volunteers we turn out. But remember to list us -- Friends of Adaire -- as your host organization!
Friends of Adaire, with the support of Adaire's excellent Home & School Association and Principal Anna Jenkins, hosted a Toddler Story Hour in Adaire's revived upstairs library on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the last few weeks of winter. We read books, provided some games for young kids, and led a circle time full of songs and movement. Designed for pre-school age children and their caregivers, we provided something fun to do indoors in that difficult time after nap and before dinner, especially when it was too dark/cold/wet to get out on the playground.

VOLUNTEER! Interested in helping out? Please contact us if you'd like to volunteer your time to help support Adaire. We could use help in the near future: organizing a wide variety of events; connecting with local business owners; creating a lot of printed materials; tabling at local festivals; and more! AND we'll need all the help we can get to make sure Comcast Cares Day makes a huge splash with a lot of volunteer turnout! Join us!

Friends of Adaire are working with Adaire's magnificent art teacher, Charlene Lutz, to showcase some highlights of the amazing student artwork she's nurturing at Adaire at our first-ever FIRST FRIDAY STUDENT ART SHOW on Friday, April 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Steap and Grind, at the corner of Columbia and Frankford across from Palmer Park! We'll be selling prints of selected student artwork and we'll be providing beer, wine and nibbles. Contact Friends of Adaire President Kate Hughes at email@example.com if you want to volunteer and/or make some food for the event!
The Adaire SCHOOLYARD IS GOING TO BE TRANSFORMED, and Friends of Adaire is leading the effort! In fall 2014, we hosted three visioning sessions for a new schoolyard we're working to bring to Adaire, hosted an online survey, and performed a lot of community outreach. With the incredible assistance of volunteer architect and Adaire neighbor Ian Smith, we provided our partners with the City and School District with a clear sense of what we want to see come to the concrete schoolyard at Palmer and Thompson! Stay tuned for more announcements!
Friends of Adaire have had a BLAST at our winter HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISERS! The last Thursday of the month at different bars around Fishtown (stay tuned for announcements about March 26th!), these events have raised a lot of money for Adaire and our spirits tremendously! We had a great turnout for our event at Cedar Point on Feb. 26, and our HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISER at Frankford Hall was a rousing success! We're thrilled to announce that we raised $1,000 at the Thursday, January 29th, event for Adaire's awesome MUSIC program, which ramped up to 65 kids this year and has been limited not by student demand but by how many working instruments have been available. With the generous support of the community, more budding musicians will get to play and learn at Adaire! Thank you!
