Friends of Adaire work to enrich and support the education at Fishtown's Alexander Adaire K-8 School.
Friends of Adaire, with the support of Adaire's excellent Home & School Association and Principal Anna Jenkins, have launched a new Toddler Story Hour event in Adaire's revived upstairs library on Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. through the end of winter and into spring. We're reading books, providing some games for young kids, and leading a circle time full of songs and movement. This is designed for pre-school age children and their caregivers, to provide something fun to do indoors in that difficult time after nap and before dinner, especially when it's too dark/cold/wet to get out on the playground.

Adaire has been featured in a PHILLY SCHOOL NEWS photo tour! Friends of Adaire facilitated and participated in a tour by Philly School News founder Lauren Summers (pictured above) on Monday, Feb. 2nd, that showed our beloved K-8 in a fantastic light! Interested in seeing the school but don't have the time to schedule a tour? This link's for you!
Want to DONATE TO SUPPORT OUR WORK? We've made that easier than ever via PayPal! Friends of Adaire received notice that we were granted OFFICIAL 501(c)3 STATUS on Friday, Oct. 3, so all donations since July 1st are tax-deductible! Now we're able to really raise funds to support the education at Adaire!
VOLUNTEER! Interested in helping out? Please contact us if you'd like to volunteer your time to help support Adaire. We could use help in the near future: organizing a wide variety of events; connecting with local business owners; creating a lot of printed materials; tabling at local festivals; and more!
Our Amazon Wishlist SCHOOL SUPPLIES DRIVE is an easy way for you to buy what Adaire teachers have specifically requested. Also, please consider donating to help buy tablets or laptops for students through DonorsChoose.org.
If you have a TARGET CREDIT CARD, you can designate 1% of your spending at Target stores to be donated to Adaire. Follow this link to Target Take Charge of Education.

The Adaire SCHOOLYARD IS GOING TO BE TRANSFORMED, and Friends of Adaire is leading the effort! In fall 2014, we hosted three visioning sessions for a new schoolyard we're working to bring to Adaire, hosted an online survey, and performed a lot of community outreach. With the incredible assistance of volunteer architect and Adaire neighbor Ian Smith, we provided our partners with the City and School District with a clear sense of what we want to see come to the concrete schoolyard at Palmer and Thompson! Stay tuned for more announcements!
Friends of Adaire have had a BLAST at our winter HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISERS! The last Thursday of the month at different bars around Fishtown (stay tuned for announcements about March 26th!), these events have raised a lot of money for Adaire and our spirits tremendously! We had a great turnout for our event at Cedar Point on Feb. 26, and our HAPPY HOUR FUNDRAISER at Frankford Hall was a rousing success! We're thrilled to announce that we raised $1,000 at the Thursday, January 29th, event for Adaire's awesome MUSIC program, which ramped up to 65 kids this year and has been limited not by student demand but by how many working instruments have been available. With the generous support of the community, more budding musicians will get to play and learn at Adaire! Thank you!
Friends of Adaire has secured more than $5,000 in GENEROUS DONATIONS to Adaire's just-reopened school library, thanks to the help of Denise Mayer and Kassis Ventures! We would also like to thank Keith Dailey (KD Financial), Amit Azoulay (Carmel Developments), Goldmark Benefits and Aron Martinez for generously supporting the library. We've been able to buy six new computers, a printer/scanner, and floor rockers! We've also begun buying updated books -- selected by librarians, teachers, parents and kids! -- with $2,000 donated for that express purpose! This is the kind of community support we dreamed of when we started Friends of Adaire! Thanks so much!
